Misty Albrecht’s current body of work toys with scale and the arrangement of visual elements to create dream-like compositions. Like Surrealism, Albrecht’s work features the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur. Each painting is an amalgamation of childlike images that act as an esoteric language to soften evident “grown up” themes such as industrialism, satiability, escapism and conformity. Personal emotions and memories of the artist are also captured in allegorical form. There is a certain element of nostalgic innocence with a hint of menace in Albrecht’s work as if she is attempting to reclaim a childhood daydream or pin-down a stream of consciousness. The relationships between the objects in Albrecht's compositions create tension that leaves the viewer pondering the artist's subjective meaning
Misty Albrecht is a born and raised San Jose resident. Her passion of art was inspired and fostered by her late grandfather Willy Albrecht at a very young age, spending beautiful afternoons in his studio in Hyrum, Utah while learning to take control of oil pastels, charcoal and colored pencil. Her actual career in the arts began as a child about 9 years of age when she went door to door selling drawings that she had created on squares of toilet paper with fruity scented Mr. Sketch markers. The drawings were a hit and sold for 10 cents apiece….it wasn’t until then that she knew she was on to something big. Since then she has been awarded scholarships from The Mission City of Santa Clara and the Triton Museum of Art. She has also been involved in group exhibitions at Red Ink Studios Gallery on Santana Row, Silicon Valley OThe Art Ark Gallery of San Jose.
